Cayman Brac ("The Brac") is one of the three islands making up the Cayman Island group. It lies 90 miles north-east of Grand Cayman and is easily reached by commercial jet. Flying time from Miami is about 1 1/2 hours. Cayman Airways (www.caymanairways.com) is the national airline of the Cayman Islands. They provide daily twin otter service from Grand Cayman to Cayman Brac and jet service on the weekends. English is the national language and the American and Cayman dollar are fixed to one another. The Brac has several car and motor scooter rental agencies and biking around the island is easy. There is no traffic light on The Brac (too few cars) and one's personal safety is never in doubt. Water quality is excellent.

The Brac is a wonderful island to visit, with a host of activities for all ages and interests. The clear, deep blue waters that surround the island host a pristine reef with great visibility and a profusion of fish life. Snorkelers and divers can enjoy the reef from shore or boat.

The Brac is also well known for its bird watching activities. The pond area provides a wonderful venue for wetland birds. The inland birds such as parrots, boobies, and flycatchers can be seen along the trails and nature preserves around the island.

Brac is Gaelic for bluff or cliff and offers some of the best rock climbing opportunities in the Caribbean with spectacular cliffs rising up above the ocean and reefs below.

Brac's caves are a must visit while on the island. These caves provided shelter for the islanders during the hurricanes in the early 1930's and today provide interesting waypoints on a driving or cycling tour.

If you're a fisherman then Brac has lots to offer. Excellent deep sea charters are available. Wahoo, tuna and marlin are popular catches of the day. There is also superb bone fishing available in the islands shallow lagoons.

Finally, Cayman Brac is just a wonderful place to relax. It is "low key" without the hustle and bustle of Grand Cayman but with almost all the amenities (sorry, no golf). This makes this small, peaceful island a great place to escape from the fast paced, stressful life style back home. Dive, climb, cycle or just plain relax - the choice is yours.
